Breakfast, as you know, is the most important meal of the
day. Especially if you are in need to lose some weight. If you feel hungry
around ten or eleven o’clock pm then you should choose the best food you can.
Probably the best choice is the oatmeal. This was confirmed by the Annals of
Nutrition and Metabolism’s latest study.
In this study were included thirty-six men and women. They both consumed 350
calories, but they were divided in 3 groups. One of the group had oatmeal
breakfast, the other had cornflakes and the third one skipped the breakfast
(consumed only water for 3 hours). They had to record their safety state and in
order to monitor the insulin and blood sugar levels they gave blood samples and
after that they all got the same lunch.
The least hungry group was the one with the oatmeal and the scientists
confirmed that they ate 31% fewer calories at lunch. The people with cornflakes
breakfast were hungry after 3 hours as well as the third group.
Why the second group was hungry even they had same amount of
calories as the first group which had oatmeal? That is because the cornflakes
cause increase in blood glucose(forcing a sudden and quick drop), while oatmeal
is kept in the stomach longer.
If you want to lose some weight, oatmeal can surely provide that because the
31-50% fewer calories will be noticed and felt for a longer period of time.
Oats and oat’s derivatives(pulp and flakes) are very healthy
and they taste good, as well. Oatmeal in not the only thing you can eat for
breakfast. You can have oats with a salad, supplement stew, as a side dish, or
as a basis for many healthy desserts, for example cookies.
The fibers that oats contain can increase the volume of the
amount consumed in the digestive system because digestion is stimulated by the
fiber. That is why oats are great option for those ones who want to lose
weight.
Oatmeal can bind the fat for themselves because it is high
in fiber which lowers the bad cholesterol levels in the blood. They also
protect the heart and blood vessels, as well as they reduce the heart attack
risk and stroke.
Oats are such a great food that can stabilize the blood
pressure. They contain lignin, an active ingredient and with regular intake can
lower the blood pressure up to 30%, according some studies.
One study, published in the British Medical Journal claims
that oats can reduce the risk of breast, colon, ovarian and prostate cancer
